You win some you lose some…or do you?

You win some you lose some…or do you?

When I started my business, I hosted one of my very first seminars and only 2 people showed up. Of course, I was hoping more people would come, but when only 2 people signed up for the event, I had a choice to make. I could have easily canceled the seminar, knowing that there would hardly be an audience… but instead, I decided to show up and teach them the same I would a room completely full of people.

I’ve said from the beginning of my career; whether I am speaking to 2 people or 2,000 people, I will always show up and give my audience to the same amount energy and attention.

Last year, I had a very similar experience that allowed me to put that belief to the test while hosting my 3rd “Selling Through The Screen Masterclass” challenge on Facebook.

My goal was to have 500 practices participating. This did not feel like a big stretch since the previous masterclasses had done so well. Combined we have had over 800 people participate and 300 offices.

Yet, this time we put more money into advertising, prizes, and setup for this event than all of the previously successful classes combined. We had a special guest appearance in Pedro Adao, who is basically the top guy when it comes to challenges right now. Also, I had never done facebook advertising at this level, so we got a coach and went all in.

After pouring so much into preparing for this event, I was shocked to see only 20 sign ups- nowhere even close to the goal I had set. I hadn’t kept in mind how busy the start of the school year would be for doctors, and didn’t plan this event accordingly.

I found myself in the same position I was years back when I hosted that seminar for 2 people- but this time, wondering if I should continue to host the event or cancel it wasn’t even a question- I showed up for those 20 practices the same way I would have for 500. Although bummed I didn’t reach my goal, I absolutely loved the challenge last week, and am so grateful for every one of those participants!

This last group was SO engaged, and participated in the whole challenge every step of the way. I also know that my learning style is teaching. When I am teaching a concept, be it an old or a new one, I know I am going to gain some new insight or way to approach the topic I hadn’t before. So, it turns out I actually did not lose anything, but gained so much more than I anticipated.

I’m happy I was able to show up for them, but they really showed up for me as well. You’re not going to win them all, however I believe that when you show up fully, you will always win. I am truly blessed that I get to share what I am passionate about- no matter how big the crowd! Where are you possibly not seeing the “Win” when things don’t go exactly as you planned. Can you find the joy and opportunity to grow, or are you focusing on what you did not get? Something to think about this week.

Proactive, Productive and Profitable,
