The one thing you should know about me

The one thing you should know about me

Today, while editing my soon-to-be-released book The Magnetic Culture Equation with my assistant, we got to the “About the Author” page. As I read through it, everything was correct—it made me sound good, maybe even impressive. But something hit me in that moment.

If someone flips to the back of my book and reads that page to “get to know me,” what I really want them to know is this:

I want you to be happy.

That’s it. That’s the core of everything I do. Whether I’m on stage dancing to Beyoncé’s Single Ladies as a 53-year-old white guy, coaching you to become a more powerful speaker, or working with your office and leadership team to refine systems and culture—every single thing is rooted in one desire: I want you to be happy.

And by “you,” I mean anyone reading this.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a team member with little say in decisions, or an owner leading 20 people—my goal is the same: I want you to find happiness.

Now, I’ll be honest. It’s easy to say “happiness is a choice”—and I do believe that, to a point. But just like Dr. Benjamin Hardy said in his book Willpower Isn’t Enough, sometimes choice alone isn’t enough. You need systems and processes to sustain it.

That’s true for diets, workouts, financial habits—and it’s true for happiness, too.
So I ask you:

  • Who in your life reminds you to be happy?
  • What do you consume daily—social media (comparison), or comedy and joy?
  • What disciplines and habits are you putting in place to help yourself return to happiness when life inevitably pulls you away?

I don’t get this right every day. I’ve had plenty of struggles with depression and anxiety. What I’ve learned is that when those days come, I can’t ignore them—I have to create an environment that helps me move back toward happiness.

For me, that looks like:

  • Watching movies with Shannon
  • Going for a walk
  • Writing something just for me
  • Laughing with friends who know how to be silly
  • Or sometimes, simply waking up and saying, “Today, I choose happiness.”

So if you’ve read this far, I want to leave you with one thing today:
No matter where or how our paths cross—my book, my events, my trainings, even this email—please know that everything I do comes back to this one desire:

I want you to be happy.

Proactive, Productive, and Profitable,
Dino
