I bought a practice… what was I thinking?

The rumors are true.

Yes—I bought a practice. A chiropractic office. In Arizona. (Cue dramatic music and raised eyebrows.)

This week at AAO, word started spreading, and I kept getting questions—some from people who had heard whispers, others completely blindsided. So I figured it’s time to set the record straight and give you the inside scoop on what the heck we were thinking.

About a year and a half ago, Shannon and I started having some real conversations about the direction of our business. You know how I’ve spent the last several years helping practices build rock-solid cultures, boost profitability, and create better experiences for both team members and patients? Well, a handful of those practices ended up getting sold to OSOs. Which is great—until they’re told to only work with in-house consultants… and suddenly I’m out of a job.

(If you’ve ever built something up only to be kicked out of the sandbox afterward, you know the feeling.)

We also had a pretty honest check-in about our retirement. Despite doing an entire series on money (because we teach what we need, right?), we hadn’t exactly been winning awards for stellar financial stewardship. Sure, we had a 401(k) and a few other things sprinkled in—but no real plan or vehicle to build serious long-term wealth.

Oh, and then there’s this small detail: I travel a lot. Like, a lot a lot. And while I love the work, I’m also a one-man show. No team of consultants, no delegation. Just Dino. Which isn’t exactly scalable—or sustainable forever.

So we had a lightbulb moment: what if we bought a business that already had cash flow and could become an asset for our future?

Shannon (a.k.a. Research Queen) dove in. We looked at coaching companies, online businesses, CPA firms, and eventually landed back on something that just felt right—chiropractic. It’s where I started, after all. In fact, my first ever client was Dr. Jason West, a chiropractor/naturopath who gave me a shot when I was just getting started.

Shannon also has deep roots in the field—she worked in chiropractic offices as a massage therapist back in the day. Our kids have grown up with chiropractic care. It’s always been a part of our lives. So when we found a promising opportunity in Chandler (with family nearby!), it checked all the boxes.

Now, here’s where it gets really exciting.

This move allows me to implement all the strategies I teach—from culture-building to marketing to leadership—and actually eat my own cooking. For the past three months, we’ve been doing just that. And let me tell you, the results are already pretty cool.

Yes, there have been challenges. Some expected, others… not so much. But I’ll be sharing it all—the wins, the surprises, and the “well, that didn’t go as planned” moments—over the next few weeks.

This email kicks off a new series where I’ll not only pull back the curtain on this latest adventure, but also highlight some incredible client success stories. From practices that were hanging on by a thread to thriving teams looking for their next edge, you’ll hear what worked, what didn’t, and what’s actually possible when the right strategies are applied.

Think of it as a behind-the-scenes peek at what happens when a consultant puts his own skin in the game—and builds something from the inside out.

Hope you’ll come along for the ride.

Productive, Proactive and Profitable,

Dino Watt
