How to master scarcity to increase your influence and income

Are you ready to delve deeper into the world of persuasion and influence? In our last post, we touched on the first universal principle of reciprocity, but today, we’re stepping up our game with the second principle- the elusive art of Scarcity.

Picture this: You stumble upon a chest of rare gems, glistening like a million stars, but there’s a catch – it’s the only chest of its kind in the entire universe. Suddenly, those gemstones become more valuable than a golden ticket to Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. That’s scarcity in a nutshell.

When we perceive something as limited, the human brain kicks into a frenzy of desire. Remember how British Airways discontinued half of its Concorde flights? Tickets suddenly flew off the shelves like Concorde itself? It wasn’t because the supersonic jet developed turbo-charged wings overnight or started serving interstellar cuisine. Nope! It was merely scarcity at play, turning a plane flight into the hottest commodity in town.

Now, applying this principle to your own persuasion endeavors is where the magic happens. Of course, you’re already highlighting the marvelous benefits of your products and services, but why not sprinkle some scarcity pixie dust on top?

For example, imagine you’re offering appointments for your exclusive services. You only have so much time in a day and only so may clients you can take on. This is a principle everyone understands. So you can use this sense of scarcity to help potential clients or current clients decide to schedule with you.

For example, let’s say your business can handle 50 clients per month. When the 15th rolls around and you’ve already seen 20, you can say “Mr. Client, we only have about 30 more appointments available this month, would you like one of those spots?” If they say yes, you add them to your schedule. You can even break that down by week. “We only have 15 open spots this week, would you want to take one of those?”.

Trust me, seeing their chance to secure a slot dwindling like ice cream on a hot summer day will light a fire under them, and before you know it, they’ll be sprinting to grab that golden opportunity.

So, when next you’re enticing clients to choose your proposition, remember this scarcity secret sauce – it’s not only about gains, but also about what they could potentially lose if they let this rare gem slip through their fingers.

Stay tuned for more persuasion brilliance as we cover the principle of authority and how you can use your expertise to pursuade and influence peoople.

Until then, keep your scarcity radar on high alert, and may your influence be as strong as a double shot of espresso.
