Twenty-five years ago, I found myself at a crossroads. Since childhood, my dream was to be a famous actor in LA. And I had been working hard to achieve my goals. I had secured several small roles in various films.
But then life happened.
As our family continued to grow, it became clear that the lifestyle of an LA actor was not conducive to raising children. So, I reluctantly set aside my childhood dream and tried to figure out what came next. I’ll be honest, I was pretty disappointed and frustrated. I felt like a quitter. I started feeling depressed and a bit lost. Of course, I internalized all of these thoughts/feelings because I knew I had made the right decision.
Then everything changed.
It happened during a seemingly mundane event—an encounter with a man speaking about taxes on stage. Even though he was talking about one of the most boring subjects on the planet, he was funny and engaging. In that moment, I realized that I, too, could command a stage, share knowledge, and make a difference without being a Hollywood performer.
Over the past two decades, I’ve embraced this newfound path, discovering a passion for public speaking that has enriched both my life and the lives of others.
